Application Development

Users are encouraged to develop software for the Neo and to share that software with others. We all have different ideas and skills and bringing together these ideas and skills will lead to some very interesting innovative applications for this device.

Developing applications on the Neo itself is not so convenient. Instead you can install a development environment hosted on your GNU/Linux computer and even run an emulator that runs the OpenMoko software for you, allowing you to test it out before installing it on the Neo1973 GTA01Bv4.

Here we set up the OpenMoko development environment and run applications in the emulation environment. The simplest approach to application development is to develop an application and package it using opkg.

We cover some alternatives here, but we may end up focusing on just the opkg path.
